Who Was Sappho?

Sappho was an ancient Greek poetess who lived on the island of Lesbos in the Aegean Sea around the 6th century BC. She was known for her lyric poetry, which expressed emotions such as love, passion, and longing. Her poetry was highly regarded in ancient Greece and beyond, and she is often referred to as the “tenth muse” by ancient scholars. Sappho’s works were mostly lost over time, and today, only fragments of her poetry survive, but these fragments continue to inspire readers and poets alike. Sappho’s poetry was notable for its emotional intensity, vivid imagery, and use of musical elements, such as meter and rhythm.
